National Authority on Child Poverty Addresses Local Conference

Dr. Jane Knitzer, executive director of the National Center for Children in Poverty, addressed about 250 attendees at a March conference held at the Springfield College School of Social Work, Responding to the Needs of Families with Young Children.

Graduate students, faculty and representatives of child and family-serving agencies from around the region participated in the event co-hosted by Cherish, the School of Social Work and Valley Psychiatric Services. Francine J. Vecchiolla, Ph.D, Dean and Professor in the School of Social Work, and a member of the Cherish Steering Committee, worked with a committee of Cherish members to plan the conference.

Welcome Baby to Springfield

Two years in the planning, Springfield’s Welcome Baby Basket pilot program has been launched – a result of the work of the Home Visiting Workgroup of Cherish. The collaborative program will provide a one-time home visit to families in Springfield who have recently delivered a baby at the Family Life Center for Maternity at Mercy Medical Center.
