April 22 - 28, 2007: Week of the Young Child

Established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children over 30 years ago, the Week of the Young Child provides an opportunity "to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment--at home, at child care, at school, and in the community--that will promote their early learning." As you start planning your Week of the Young Child Celebrations, Strategies for Children, Inc. and our Early Education for All (EEA) Campaign would like to invite you to participate in the following activities to celebrate the WOYC:

Wear your WOYC Sticker

Visit the website, www.earlyeducationforall.org, and download the template to make stickers for your staff, parents and children to wear to celebrate the week! Please wear the sticker during the WOYC to show your commitment to early educators.

Invite your state legislators to read at your program

All state legislators will receive a children's book, "What Do You Want To Be?" generously donated by Lakeshore, and will be encouraged to read to children in their district during the Week. We need teachers, directors and family child care providers to invite state senators and/ or representatives to programs. The Campaign is happy to help with talking points and contact information for the legislators.

Submit a letter to the editor of your local paper

Use your voice for children! We are encouraging volunteers to submit letters to the editor of local papers highlighting the WOYC and the importance of early education within their communities. The Campaign has sample letters, and can provide assistance with newspaper addresses and contact information. If you are interested in submitting a letter, please contact Amy O'Leary, Deputy Campaign Director, at 617-330-7384 or aoleary@earlyeducationforall.org.
