Talking to your child-from-birth-gives them a world of words and ideas, for free!
- Talk about the day's plans:
"What will we do today?"
"What will we do first?"
"What do you think will happen when we go for a walk today?" - Create opportunities for your child to story-tell about their lives.
"Tell me a story about when you went out to play today." - Ask your child to figure out which clothes go on where and in what order.
Ask: "Which goes on first-your socks or your shoes?"
Be silly, if you like!
Say: "Does your shirt go on your foot?" - At the breakfast table, ask your child where the food comes from.
Ask: "Who grows our food?"
Ask: "What drink comes from a cow?"
Ask: "What food do chickens lay?"
The best tip: Take time every day to read to your child or tell your child a story in your native language. It will be the most important 20 minutes a day that you give to your child!
